The End of our Wedding Era

We began in 2004 with the Hope of saving our nearly 150 year old family home.

Teaching the old girl new tricks. And it worked beyond our wildest dreams.

Somehow we were chosen for a wedding to start off. And we have been running

with them ever since.

But now we are getting older just like Rockwood Manor and believe it or not it’s time

to wind down the wedding venue side of the business.

So we have made the decision to make 2023 the last year of weddings.

It has been a lovely ride with so many wonderful couples and we wish them well in the future.

We will still be welcoming guests from around the world so come join us on the porch.

Shawn Utt honored as Big Brother of the Year at Rockwood Manor

Blog

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia’s Mission is to provide children facing adversity with one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. This is a proven and shown by better performance in school and avoidance of violence and illegal activities.

However, these outcomes do not happen overnight. Bigs have the most impact on Littles when they are matched for one year or more. Shawn Utt understands exactly what it means to build a mentoring relationship over time. He is a consistent and caring role model in Little Brother Joseph’s life.

Joseph had many problems in school in 2012. He found himself in the principal’s office weekly, and his report cards showed D’s and F’s. Big Brother Shawn and Little Brother Joseph were matched in 2012 and have spent the past 3 years building their friendship. Joseph has not received a single disciplinary action since being matched with Shawn, and he brought home his first straight A report card this past year. During their time together, Shawn and Joseph research careers in engineering and video game design. Shawn tries to expose Joseph to new experiences and ideas that could trigger a passion, career path, or hobby.

It is easy to see how Shawn has changed Joseph’s life for the better, forever.
Pulaski County and Town of Pulaski (Shawn is the Town Manager) and all of our citizens are honored to have Shawn as a local leader.

Music and All That Jazz!!

Rockwood Manor is delighted to be hosting the  The New River Valley  Friends of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra Road Show. We are the Sixth stop since they hit the road in September, how exciting!

The NRV Friends of the Roanoke Symphony is a volunteer arm of the RSO that supports performances of the Roanoke Symphony in our area and  promotes music education programs in New River schools. This years show will be featuring jazz bassist Charlie Perkinson & Co. Mr. Perkinson is the weekday host of “Jazz Tonight”  He has had a love for Jazz since high school where he played the upright bass. In his college years at Virginia Tech he played in the school dance band, The Southern Colonels.

After college, while overseas as a member of the United States Air Force he had the opprotunity one night to play the bass in the band backing up singer Rosemary Clooney while she was on a USO tour.

We look forward to visiting with our friends and having a relaxing evening listening to Charlie Perkinson & Co.
